View of Genoa
The Italian Riviera is like a garden that’s looking out to sea. It has a landscape that’s filled with palms, its sea fronts blooming with flowers and pastel colored houses makes it the perfect place where you can unwind. Liguria also has historical cities and medieval towns, with places known internationally and are commonly associated with the Dolce Vita.

Remaining Walls of Christopher Columbus House
Genoa, the capital of the region, is a large port but it is also a historical city. It is said that the great Christopher Columbus was born here. Perhaps one of the most important developments in the Italian Riviera is the construction of the Acquiario Di Genova, that largest aquarium in Europe. It was built to coincide with the 500th anniversary of Columbus’ discovery of the New World.

The Old Port in Genova is also a popular tourist attraction. Its unique combination of the ancient and the modern makes it a dazzling place. It is alive at all times of the day, thanks to the numerous restaurants, night clubs, museums and other activities. The truth is, the Old Port is seldom a part of itineraries, and that’s the reason why hotels and restaurants are more reasonably priced here.

Old Genoa near Old Port
The old town of Genoa is the largest historic center of Europe, complete with labyrinths, alleyways, stairs and hills begging to be discovered. In this city, you will see art everywhere – frescoes on facades, marble friezes above doorways and entire buildings painted in trompe l’oeil. A journey through the maze will lead you to the Via Gibaldi, where 13 palaces were built in the 16th century. Three of these palaces, the Palazzos Bianco, Rossi and Tursi, are now being used as an art museum complex. There are also a number of beautiful churches , which are all masterpieces of architecture.
On the western side of the Italian Riviera, one will find the San Remo, with its Art Nouveau villas, and palm tree lined beaches – a true picture of luxury. Here, flowers bloom everywhere and there’s a section known as Pigna, a flea market open during Saturdays, is brimming with local produce and wine.
Further down the coast will lead you to the terraced vineyards of Cinque Terre, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you are a wine connoisseur, or you simply want the best from life, then there’s no better place to go but the Italian Riviera.
