Sights to See in Portofino

The harbor itself is a sight to behold. Holding up to 300 boats the harbor is alive with history, art, and sea sports. There is a spectacular reef right off the harbor that is great for diving and snorkeling. Another important visit you need to make is to the Monte di Portofino Natural Park which is home to olive trees and pines along with a mixture of shrubs and bushes that you can’t find anywhere else. You can hike here almost all the way to the mountains. Full of history, the church of San Giorgio is a great place to start your vacation here along with the lighthouse overlooking the port. A must see is the fortress of San Giorgio which is practically in the city centre, as are most of the historical buildings.

Getting Around Town

The best way to see Portofino is on foot. There are also boat services that can take you around as well as frequent buses. Nearby in Santa Margherita Ligure you can catch a train or you can hop on a scooter to get around the actual town. Since parking is so limited in this small resort area, it is best not to hire a car since there are so many other options.

With only 600 year round visitors there aren’t that many hotels but what they lack in quantity, they make up for in quality. They have mostly four-star hotels that cater to the celebrity and affluent clientele that call Portofino home for a few weeks in the summer. Where to Eat in Portofino

Eating out is easy to do in Portofino with plenty of restaurants to enjoy an authentic Italian meal. There are gorgeous views from the La Terrazza restaurant located in the Hotel Splendido which books up quickly. In fact, eating out during the spring through the fall can be difficult when there are limited tables so make sure you make reservations ahead of time. Even still, there are plenty of smaller less crowded restaurants as well.
